While attending the Handling and Moving course I learned all about the hoist and equipment as I have never used any of them before. I felt the course was very well explained and easy to understand. Learning about how to take care of myself in the workplace and those I care for will be what I take forward. Thoroughly enjoyed the two day course. It was well presented by the team and gave a good balance of legislation, equipment and practical sessions. I also enjoyed the humour and conversations that were encouraged through out the days I attended. I liked the practical sessions and being given time and shown tolerance for questions and sharing. I feel a fresh confidence of new skills learned, new skills made and more tools for the future to use. I feel the team couldn't have done more to give us an option to keep in touch and feel supported. Thank you very much, a team with passion for people and sharing their skills I enjoyed all aspects of the course and found the hoists and slide sheets particular useful for my work. Going forward I have better empathy, of how it feels to be hoisted and if you had a sensory impairment. Also thinking more outside the box for the clients I support and why their behavior may change. At the course the discussions were great and also being able to practice the moves and on the equipment. I learned a lot and will be using and thinking more about what I do before handling and moving a person. Knowing the trainers are available to support you if you have any questions will support me. I loved the course and learned a lot. All practical session were very valuable to my work. I feel more confident in being able to carry out assessments of service users looking at handling and moving issues and providing appropriate equipment to meet their needs. I will continue to think about my practice and feel comfortable to l contact the team to gain their knowledge and support when needed. As a family member who has been caring for their father and then asked to use a hoist this was a challenging time. After meeting the Manual Handling Trainer and having their support helped me to learn about using the hoist safely and look after my own health.
